A donation to the Sedalia Fire Department will cover the costs of bulletproof vests.
The donation was made at the August 19th meeting of the Sedalia City Council by Darrell Smith, president of HeroFund USA. City administrator Kelvin Shaw says the city applied for the cost-share grant from the nonprofit.
The grant of nearly 79-hundred dollars ($7867.50) will held fund the purchase of 15 vests and helmets.
Sedalia’s council also agreed to the purchase of new radios for the police department. Shaw says several of the radios in use are outdated.
American Rescue Plan Act funds will cover part of the almost 150-thousand dollar ($149,565.02) price tag.
Sedalia’s city council will have different than usual dates for both their meetings in September. Because tomorrow (Monday) is Labor Day, the council will meet Tuesday evening at 6:30. Their meeting previously scheduled for September 16th has been pushed back a week as a result of the annual Missouri Municipal League conference.
