The Kansas City Royals fell to the Houston Astros 5-2 on Saturday, August 31.
Starter Cole Ragans cruised through the first five innings of the game, setting the Royals single season record for strikeouts by a left-handed pitcher. He ran into some trouble in the sixth though, giving a two run single from Yainer Diaz and a two run triple from Jeremy Pena. An additional run was charged to Ragans on a wild pitch from Steven Cruz.
Ragans finished the day pitching five innings, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks. He fanned ten in the outing, bringing his season total up to 197.
The Royals attempted to mount a comeback, with Nick Loftin driving in a run in the seventh, and Bobby Witt Jr. hitting his 29th home run of the season in the eighth.
That would be all the Royals could muster, as Ryan Pressly recorded the save for Houston.
The Royals fall to 75-62, 2.5 games back of Cleveland for the AL Central.
