The Saline County Commission has awarded another contract for a bridge in need of replacement.

At last week’s session, the commission awarded the contract for the Paw Paw Trail Bridge over Bear Creek north of Gilliam to Great River Engineering of Springfield. The bridge has an estimated price tag of $664,706 and will replace the current structure built in 1920.

Also at last week’s meeting, the commission agreed to a request from prosecutor Tim Thompson and circuit clerk Becky Uhlich for $900 from the county’s opioid settlement fund to host a training session at the Martin Center. The commission also approved a request from the Marshall Chamber of Commerce to use the courthouse lawn the evening of Oct. 24th for a Trick or Treat event, agreed to an order transferring fines and forfeitures to the appropriate fund, and another order destroying an old vending machine.
