A Tennessee man was seriously injured when the semi-truck he was riding in ran off Interstate 70 just shy of a Saline County junction Tuesday night.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred just after 9 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the 84.6 mile marker. According to troopers, 57-year-old Jeffrey McInturff was driving the semi when he went off the right side of the roadway into a ditch. He was able to drive the truck back onto the highway before it overturned, coming to rest on its right side. McInturff had no reported injuries; however, a 49-year-old passenger in the cab, Ronnie Heaton, sustained serious injury and was taken to a Columbia hospital. Troopers say Heaton did not have a safety device on at the time of the crash.
