The Marshall City Council gave first reading to the city’s budget for Fiscal Year 2025 at Tuesday’s meeting.
The budget calls for tax revenue of $13.4 million, including park and library funds, while budgeting just over $14 million of estimated expenditures. Finance director Aimee Klinge says the $670,000 shortfall is as a result of construction at the municipal airport.
Klinge says the state and federal reimbursement will appear as additional revenue once it’s sent to the city. The sanitation budget is also showing a sizable deficit, which Klinge says is as a result of continued transfers to another department.
The Marshall city budget calls for a three percent pay increase for city workers, upgrading the city’s digital platforms for increased accessibility, and a taser program for the police department. Anticipated capital expenditures for next year include air pacs for the fire department, a new zero turn mower for sanitation, and vacuum excavator for the street department. The budget also includes $285,000 in loan repayments for the Habitation Center.
Klinge says the budget is available for review on the City of Marshall website. The city council will give second reading to the proposed budget at their next meeting Sept. 17.
