A last-second defensive stand and overturned call overshadowed Xavier Worthy’s two touchdowns as the Kansas City Chiefs tiptoed to a 27-20 victory over the Baltimore Ravens Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs defense prevented Lamar Jackson from potentially winning the game after the Ravens got the ball back with 1:50 to play and no time outs. Jackson quickly marched Baltimore into the red zone, adding to his 273 passing yards and 16 carries for another 122 yards. The Ravens had three chances to score from the ten, with the third attempt caught by Isaiah Likely for what would have been his second touchdown of the fourth quarter… had his toes not been on the chalk at the back of the end zone. Video review overturned the initial call of a touchdown right as Ravens coach John Harbaugh signaled his intent to go for two and avoid overtime.

The Ravens had the first score of the game when Derrick Henry scored on a five-yard rush. Kansas City quickly responded:, with Worthy rushing 21 yards for his first professional touchdown.  Worthy would have a touchdown catch in the second half, while Isiah Pacheco added a rushing touchdown to start the third quarter. Harrison Butker connected on two field goals, both off short-field opportunities.

Patrick Mahomes had 291 yards and a touchdown, but threw one interception on a drive that could have seen the Chiefs go up by two touchdowns before halftime. Rashee Rice led the Chiefs’ receivers with seven catches for 103 yards.

The Chiefs start the season 1-0, and are back at Arrowhead Stadium for Week 2 action, welcoming the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 15. Pregame will be 2 p.m., with kickoff at 3:25 on KMMO-FM 102.9.
