Two subjects were charged with numerous felonies, including identity theft following an investigation on August 29.

According to a release, the Higginsville Police Department was contacted by a local business reporting that they believed they had two individuals attempting to purchase a new vehicle by fraudulently using another person’s identity. An investigation conducted by officers revealed fraudulent identification and documentation were used in an attempt to purchase a vehicle.

Contact was made with the victim of the stolen identity who confirmed that his identity had been stolen. An operation was conducted by Higginsville Officers to apprehend the suspects when they attempted to complete the illegal transaction. When the two suspects came to the dealership and signed paperwork to pick up the vehicle Higginsville Officers were able to take the suspects into custody without incident. Once in custody officers located two other driver’s licenses/identities from different victims, a stolen handgun and narcotics in their possession. The suspects, identified as Saif Damer and Angela Brown were placed on 24 hour holds in the Lafayette County jail and charged by Lafayette County Prosecutor.

Court documents say both subjects have been charged with felonies for identity theft, forgery, possession of a controlled substance, and attempted stealing of a motor vehicle. Additionally, Brown has been charged with a felony for stealing a firearm.

Both were arraigned on September 4, with Brown pleading not guilty, and Damer motioning for a bond reduction.

Damer’s next hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 11; while Brown’s counsel status hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 18.
