A Raymore man is behind bars, facing a second degree arson charge in Johnson County stemming from a June 2020 blaze at a Leeton church.
In a joint statement, Johnson County Prosecutor Robert Russell and the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office accused 36-year-old Scott Gregory Taylor of intentionally setting the fire that destroyed the Harmony Baptist Church over four years ago. The 100-year-old building could not be saved and has since been demolished. Security footage from a camera at the church showed a man setting the building ablaze where investigators determined the fire’s origin to be. A renewed effort to identify the suspect was launched this past July, leading to Taylor’s arrest last week in Jackson County. Taylor is being held on $25,000 cash bond. His next court date has not yet been set.
