
Jerry Lee “Steamer” Van Steenburgh, 80, of Sweet Springs, MO, died Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2024, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Sweet Springs, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be held in Houstonia Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to family choice. Born July 19, 1944, in Marshall, MO, he was the son of the late Richard Nelson Van Steenburgh and Iva Jurl Bailey Van Steenburgh. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 3rd Armour Division. On June 24, 1966, he married V. Loraine Winfrey who preceded him in death on April 20, 2017. He lived in the Houstonia area most of his life and retired from Pittsburgh Corning in Sedalia after many years of service. He loved nature, was an all-around outdoorsman and herbalist, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors include three children, Brenda Lee Archambault (Richard) of Stover, Jerry Lee Van Steenburgh II (Deena) of Sweet Springs and Jeff Van Steenburgh (Lyndsay) of Billings, MT; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanette Brockman (Kim) of Stover; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a daughter, Eugenia Van Steenburgh; and two brothers, James R. Van Steenburgh and Paul Wayne Van Steenburgh.
