The Saline County Commission took the first step in updating the county’s hazard mitigation plan, signing a proposal Thursday morning to begin the process with the Pioneer Trails Regional Planning Commission.

Executive director Norm Lucas made a presentation to the commission on the steps ahead in drafting an updated document, which would ensure state and federal reimbursement of costs incurred in the event of a disaster. Commissioners signed a document that would maintain FEMA funding as needed during the process.

Also at Thursday morning’s session, commissioners approved the transfer of Sydney Sheffer from the assessor’s office to emergency management, and approved the hiring of Hailie Kisel to a full-time position in the assessor’s office.
