Additional police presence and security measures are in place Friday morning at Marshall Public Schools, as the district became the latest to receive a threat via social media. Superintendent Caleb Petet says local police made the district aware of the threat.
Petet says a similar series of threats occurred two years ago that impacted one of Marshall’s buildings. He details the additional security measures in place around the district Friday morning.
Petet thanks district parents and community for their support and understanding during the situation. He encourages the district to stay positive, but adds that district leaders and law enforcement will not take threats to its students and staff lightly.
At least three other districts in the area—Lexington, Odessa and Sedalia—informed their parents earlier this week of threats received via social media. Separately, Lexington R-V Schools alerted parents Thursday, Sept. 12 that the middle school had gone on lockdown that morning as a result of a student statement about a weapon.
