The St Louis Cardinals were hexed by Toronto pitchers, limiting the Redbirds to three hits, while a bee sting got the best of a Cardinals infielder in a 7-2 loss Saturday afternoon at Rogers Centre.

The Cardinals had scored first with a solo home run by Jordan Walker in the third inning, only for the Blue Jays to tie in the bottom half with a home run by Davis Schneider. Toronto then scored four runs in the sixth, aided by a throwing error by Masyn Winn, then two more runs in the seventh. To add injury to insult for the Cardinals, play stopped briefly in the eighth inning when Nolan Arenado was stung by a bee that became lodged in his glove. Arenado was replaced by José Fermín, whose ground out in the ninth brought in the Cardinals’ second run.

Kyle Gibson took the loss for St Louis, with just one of his five runs earned on four hits and three walks, while striking out one in his 5.1 innings. José Berrios limited the Cardinals to one run on two hits and two walks while striking out four in his seven innings to earn his 16th win of the year.

The Cardinals are back at .500 with just 14 games remaining in the season, trailing Milwaukee in the NL Central by 12 games and the Braves and Mets for a wild card spot by seven games. The Cardinals look to avoid going winless in Canada with the series finale Sunday afternoon; first pitch is at 12:37 p.m.
