Marshall Public Schools officials continue to report progress on construction of the new intermediate school on the district’s Northeast Campus.

At last week’s school board meeting, assistant superintendent David Reinke reported that walls for the gymnasium were up and that the building as a whole is about 35 percent complete, staying on track to open for students in August 2025. Marshall Superintendent Caleb Petet tells KMMO News that the time is approaching for the district to start conversations about the buildings the intermediate school will replace.

A third building slated for closure, Eastwood Elementary, will transfer to the City of Marshall at the end of the school year.

Meanwhile, with most of the former Marshall Habilitation Center’s acreage now owned by the district, attention is also turning to maintaining the site and preparing it for future development. Petet says the district could acquire some machinery to help with that.

The bulldozer would be from a seller in Texarkana and cost $19,000. The proposed purchase was given a first reading.

Also last week, the board approved the district’s bus routes for the year and the purchase of a dump trailer for $17,000. School board members also gave first reading to 14 policy revisions.
