Sales tax collections in Saline County during August were marginally higher than the previous month, while use tax revenues dropped.
According to figures released by county treasurer Jared Brewer last week, Saline County received from the Missouri Department of Revenue $114,807.09 in sales tax revenue that was collected last month, a net increase from July of $393.62. August 2024 collections were also 3.5 percent higher than the previous year. Law enforcement and economic development sales tax collections also totaled over $114,000 each. Use tax revenue tumbled 11 percent year-over-year to $71,552.24 in August. That was also $45,393.48 lower than the figure posted in July.
Sales tax revenue for September in Saline County could be influenced by the renewal of three sales tax measures. Voters in April approved the renewal of the eighth-cent law enforcement sales tax that had been set to expire this month. Also in April, voters in Slater approved retaining two half-cent sales taxes, one for city improvements and the other for transportation.
