Missouri Valley Vikings’ soccer programs achieved a sweep of Central Methodist on Tuesday night at Volney C Ashford Stadium.

The 23rd rank Viking women pulled an upset of the sixth-ranked Eagles 3-2, with two first half goals from Madi Hudson and Ashley Arribas. Mariana Barreto pulled one back for CMU in the 32nd minute. The second half saw Viktoria Einsbor extend the Viking lead in the 80th minute, with CMU’s Paula Castro responding a minute later. Despite six corner kicks in the second half, CMU were unable to find the equalizer, falling to their first defeat on the season. Missouri Valley improved to 5-3 on the season while CMU now sit at 6-1-1.

The 11th ranked Viking men spent most of the game a man down, as defender Alejandro Lujan was sent off in the 34th minute with a straight red card. Both teams peppered in shots, with CMU keeper Niccolo Cabras saving six shots on goal, while Valley’s Cristobal Benitez Delgado saved five. The lone goal would come in the 87th minute, when Sam Green dispossessed an Eagle defender at the top of the box and sent his shot off Cabras’ fingertips into the back of the net. The Vikings are now 5-1-1. while CMU fell to 7-1 overall.

Missouri Valley take their 2-0 conference marks on the road Saturday to Dubuque, Iowa, where Clarke College will host the Vikings in doubleheader action. The women’s match will be at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3:30.

Central Methodist will next play Monday evening at Davis Field in Fayette when they host Graceland. The women kick off at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m.
