The Kansas City Royals stranded eight base runners, including five in scoring position, as they failed to plate any runs in a 9-0 loss to San Francisco on Saturday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium.
Despite picking up three walks off starter Landen Roupp, the Royals could only claim five hits in the game, going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. By comparison, the Giants’ LaMonte Wade Junior and Matt Chapman each belted a pair of home runs off Royals starter Brady Singer, while Carlos Hernández gave up a three-run home run to Mike Yastremski. Singer took his 12th loss of the year, lasting 5.1 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six.
The loss marks six straight losses for the Royals and gifted the Cleveland Guardians the AL Central title before their game against the Cardinals. At 82-73, the Royals are just a half-game ahead of Minnesota for the second spot, after Minnesota’s game at Boston was rained out. Detroit sit just a game behind the Royals after an extra-innings win against Baltimore.
The Royals look to snap their losing streak in their last game at home for the regular season, with Seth Lugo set to start Sunday afternoon. First pitch is at 1:10 p.m., with pregame at 12:30 on KMMO AM 1300.
