Areas of Central Missouri picked up about two to three inches of rain over the weekend, as the calendar turned from summer to fall.

National Weather Service meteorologist Brett Williams says the rainfall was long overdue, with most of Missouri falling into drought or abnormally dry condition over the past month.

KMMO observed 2.24″ of rain over the weekend. Williams says cloud cover and more showers are in the forecast later this week, which could address drought conditions around the state.

Last week’s update to the U.S. Drought Monitor showed 47 percent of Missouri in either moderate or severe drought, while another 35 percent of the state was in abnormal dryness.
