Kansas City Royals pitchers have gone a franchise-record 26 innings without allowing a run, as the Royals posted another shutout Wednesday night over the Washington Nationals 3-0.
Daniel Lynch IV picked up the win as one of six Royals pitchers contributing to the shutout effort, stepping in after starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen experienced fatigue in his left hamstring. Lorenzen’s first outing since returning from the injury list was expected to be short, coming to a close with one out in the third inning. Lynch gave up the only two hits to Washington, while the pitching staff combined for five walks and seven strikeouts. Lucas Erceg secured his 13th save of the year.
As for the offense, Michael Massey and Robbie Grossman had RBIs, with Massey singling in a run in the third and Grossman bringing home two runs in the sixth with his single. Massey and Salvador Perez each had two hits on the evening.
The Royals (84-74) remain tied with Detroit and two games ahead of Minnesota for the second wild card spot, as the Tigers and Twins both won last night. Seattle also picked up a win to stay two-and-a-half games behind the Royals. KC will go for the sweep of Washington on Thursday afternoon, with pregame at 11:30 a.m. and first pitch at 12:10 p.m. on KMMO AM 1300.
