The only impacts Western Missouri might see from the remnants of Hurricane Helene will be those broadcast from the Kansas City Royals’ weekend series in Atlanta.

Jonathan Kurtz, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, says despite the westerly track of Helene’s center, the outer rain bands aren’t expected to cross into the western part of the state this weekend.

Kurtz explains why the system is taking an unusual jog to the west.

Flash flood warnings and emergencies are in place across portions of northern Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee. Kurtz notes that with most of Helene’s rain bands now to the north of Atlanta, the Royals and Braves should be able to play the first of their three games Friday, with both teams still vying for wild card spots in the playoffs.
