Ryan Helsley picked up his record-breaking 49th save in a 6-3 win over the San Francisco Giants on Friday, September 27.

Nolan Arenado drove in a run in the first on an RBI single. Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas would give up the lead, surrendering three runs in the second inning.

The Cardinals would get a run back with a solo homer from Lars Nootbar in the third, then take the lead by bring home four runs in the fourth.

Mikolas picked up the win, going five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. John King, Andrew Kittredge, and Matthew Liberatore bridge the gap to the ninth, where Ryan Helsley broke the Cardinals’ single season saves record with his 49th save of the season. The previous record was held by Trevor Rosenthal back in 2015.

St. Louis improves to 82-78, securing an above .500 season, even after already being eliminated from playoff contention.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, September 28, with first pitch at 3:05 p.m.
