Agencies across Missouri will pause this weekend to reflect and remember firefighters who have given their lives while serving their communities.

The annual commemoration of Fire Service Memorial Day will take place Sunday, following a proclamation from Missouri Governor Mike Parson. The Fire Fighters Memorial of Missouri in Kingdom City will host two events this weekend to allow the families and colleagues of fallen firefighters to reflect. A candlelight vigil will take place Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at the memorial, located at the northwest corner of Exit 148 off Interstate 70 in Kingdom City. A memorial service will follow Sunday morning at 10:30, where the names of three fallen firefighters will be added to the memorial. The names being added are Captain Raymond Wynn of Kansas City, Firefighter Tad Russell of Brumley, and Firefighter Lloyd Ruediger of New Haven-Berger.

In the event of inclement weather, the events will move to Auxvasse Elementary School. The Fire Fighters Memorial of Missouri Foundation will also livestream Sunday’s service on their Facebook page.
