Both Missouri Valley Vikings soccer squads prevailed over MidAmerica Nazarene in a clash of top-25 programs Wednesday afternoon in Olathe.

The 22nd-ranked Viking women picked up a 1-0 win over the 19th-ranked Pioneers, with midfielder Judit Ferre taking possession in midfield about halfway through the first half, then sending a shot over the keeper to net the game’s lone goal. Vikings goalkeeper Barbara Bujalance was tested by the Pioneers, saving all seven shots on goal to post the Vikings’ fifth clean sheet of the season. The Vikings are now 7-3-1 overall, including a 4-0-1 mark in the Heart of America.

The tenth-ranked Viking men struck early, with defender Kazuki Hashimoto heading in a corner kick from forward Sam Green just four minutes into the match. MidAmerica Nazarene equalized in the 28th minute with a goal from Jaxon Slaven. The 20th-ranked Pioneers sent eight shots on goal, with seven saved by Benitez Delgado. The Vikings made the most of their few targets on goal, as a free kick delivered in the penalty area in the 87th minute was eventually laced home by defender Jacob Adams. The win improves MoValley’s record to 8-1-1 overall, with a perfect 5-0 mark in the conference.

Both Viking squads are back on the road Saturday for a conference tilt in Oskaloosa, Iowa against William Penn. The women kick off at 11 a.m., while the men face the sixth-ranked Statesmen at 1:30 p.m.
