The St Louis Blues claimed three goals in the third period, and the winner less than a minute in overtime, to take out the San Jose Sharks 5-4 on Thursday, Oct. 10 at SAP Arena.
The Blues fell behind early, thanks in part to a goal by the Sharks’ Macklin Celebrini just seven minutes into his NHL debut. Pavel Buchnevich got the Blues on the board a minute later, only for San Jose to take the lead late in the first period, then add two in the second. Radek Faksa started the Blues comeback nearly three minutes into the third, followed by a goal from Ryan Suter. Justin Faulk notched the equalizer with 47 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. The Blues completed the comeback with captain Brayden Schenn’s goal 45 seconds into the overtime frame. Joel Hofer made 25 saves in his season debut between the pipes for the Blues.
The Blues continue their West Coast start to the season Friday evening in Las Vegas against the Golden Knights. Puck drop at T-Mobile Arena is at 9 p.m.
