The City of Marceline has begun the process of installing the dome over the city pool to keep it in operation over the winter.

Crews began the process Thursday morning, according to city manager Jesse Wallis.

A community group successfully led an effort to raise funds to bring the dome back for the winter. Wallis says an opening date for the pool is not yet set.

An update on the pool dome was on the agenda at Wednesday night’s Marceline City Council meeting. At that meeting, council approved the city’s budget for the next fiscal year, which anticipates a five-percent increase in water and wastewater rates as well as a 13-percent rate increase for electricity. Wallis says a public hearing will take place before the increases are voted upon.  The council also approved an updated agreement for an in-field verification of lead service lines in the city, and agreed to a street closure request for Ritchie Street in front of the Walsworth Community Center for the Apple Butter Festival, set for October 26th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
