The No. 20 Missouri Valley College women’s soccer team has swept the weekly Heart of America Athletic Conference awards for their play in two conference victories last week.
Forward Marlene Flores has been named the Heart Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, and Goalkeeper Marina Barbara Bujalance has been named the Heart Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
This is the first weekly award for Flores on the season, and was earned after leading the Vikings in both victories last week. Flores scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Benedictine (Kan.), and followed with two goals in a 3-1 comeback win over Grand View (Iowa). Flores has seven goals, four assists and 18 points on the season.
Barbara Bujalance earned the defensive award for the second-straight week, after making seven saves to earn a shutout in the 3-0 win over Benedictine. Bujalance followed by keeping Grand View to only one shot on goal in the 3-1 victory, Saturday. Bujalance holds a 0.91 goals against average so far this season, and has helped the team record seven shutouts.
The women’s soccer team last swept the weekly Heart awards back in November of 2020. Earlier this season, Junior Midfielder Judit Ferre earned the offensive player award, September 30.
The women’s soccer team is 10-3-1 overall and leads the Heart with a 7-0-1 conference record. Up next, the team hosts Park (Mo.) in a Heart game. The Senior Day match begins at 1 p.m., inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.
