The Sedalia City Council voted last week to begin migrating the city’s geographic information systems to a cloud-based software.

City Administrator Kelvin Shaw says moving the city to a cloud-based system will allow for better coordination between city departments as well as with Pettis County, who also contributes information to the system.

Shaw says the city will designate a point person to oversee all data included in Sedalia’s GIS setup.

Shaw says the migration to the cloud will take two to three years as the city begins moving data away from their previous setup. He notes the contract is pro-rated to account to initial limited use, along with cost savings from the eventual cancellation of the old licenses.
