At a special meeting called Wednesday, Oct. 16 to sign an agreement for construction of the welcome center, the Saline County Commission announced a second development for the southeast corner of the Marshall Junction.

Shortly after the commission approved signing the contract with Westport Construction to build the welcome center, Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden read a statement from the commission, announcing that Love’s Travel Center would build a new location at the junction. Gooden details what the new business could bring.

Gooden credited investment in the intersection’s infrastructure for landing the Oklahoma-based travel stop chain.

While water lines to the site have been installed, permit applications for construction of the wastewater system are still pending with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Gooden says she anticipates their approval within the next two weeks, with construction of both the welcome center and Love’s Travel Center to follow.

Also at Wednesday morning’s special session, the Saline County Commission approved a request from the sheriff’s office for the destruction of an outdated computer network switcher.
