KMMO’s longtime play-by-play broadcaster Greg Schmidt is preparing for his 6,000th on-air game Friday, Oct. 18, when Concordia visits Sweet Springs in eight-man football.

Schmidt recently gave KMMO an insight into his approach to broadcasting, honed over the past 51 years across Western Missouri. He highlights one aspect of the craft that appeals to him the most.

Schmidt says a typical Friday Night Game of the Week will require eight to 12 hours of preparation, but what gets him most excited for each game is visiting with area coaches.

Greg Schmidt has regularly broadcast for KMMO since 1984. His 6,000th game will air Friday evening, with pregame at 6:40 p.m. and kickoff at 7:00 p.m., on KMMO-FM 102.9.
