The City of Brunswick awarded bids to two contractors for their $5 million overhaul of the city’s wastewater system.

City Clerk Sarah Clubine tells KMMO News that the council agreed at Tuesday night’s meeting to award the bid for the treatment plant to SMICO Contracting of Odessa, while Bennett, Incorporated of Lamar won the bid to install sewer lines around the city. Clubine credited McClure Engineering for their work to design the new system and solicit construction bids.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the council approved an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources concerning the maintenance of levees along the Missouri River. Clubine says a letter to both agencies will indicate the city’s recognition of responsibility for maintaining the levee within the city limits, while the Brunswick-Dalton Drainage District continues to maintain the levee outside the city limits.
