The Pettis County Commission issued a proclamation and held a press conference at Smith-Cotton High School in support of the Missouri Department of Transportation’s (MoDOT) Buckle Up Phone Down (BUPD) initiative on Thursday, October 17.

The event was aimed to encourage residents of Pettis County to commit to safer driving practices by taking the BUPD challenge.

The BUPD movement is designed to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities by promoting two critical safety measures: wearing seat belts and avoiding cellphone use while driving. During the press conference, members of the Pettis County Commission, representatives from the Sedalia School District 200, and members of the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety delivered remarks, expressing their strong support for the initiative and urging community members to take action to protect themselves and others on the road.
