A lights-out performance by both goalies Thursday, Oct. 17 at Enterprise Center went into overtime, where Jake Neighbours finally broke through the deadlock in the St Louis Blues’ 1-0 victory over the New York Islanders.
Neighbours scored the only goal of the game just over two minutes into the extra frame, when on a three-on-one rush took a pass from Philip Broberg and slid the puck past Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin. That goal was the only blemish for Sorokin, who saved the first 29 shots recorded by the Blues, while Blues goalie Joel Hofer recorded 34 saves to secure the shutout. Broberg’s assist allowed him to set a Blues record for a defenseman by recording a point in each of his first five games with the team.
The Blues now have six points in the young season, keeping them fifth in the Central Division standings. They welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to St Louis on Saturday evening, with puck drop at 6 p.m.
