Three interceptions by the Kansas City Chiefs defense, along with four rushing touchdowns by the offense, resulted in a 28-18 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Oct. 20 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

San Francisco scored first with Anders Carlson’s 55-yard field goal, in what would turn out to be their only lead of the game. The Chiefs took the lead on the next drive, with Kareem Hunt dashing in from one yard for the score. Hunt also scored on the next drive from six yards out, set up by Mecole Hardman’s 55-yard punt return. San Francisco added a field goal as time expired on the first half to make it 14-6.

San Francisco took advantage of a Patrick Mahomes interception to set up their first touchdown of the afternoon, a one-yard keeper by Brock Purdy. However, instead of going for two to tie, the 49ers opted for the PAT hat Carlson bounced off the left upright. The next two 49ers drives ended in interceptions, including a goal-line snatch by Jaden Hicks. The Chiefs converted both picks into touchdown-scoring drives, including a one-yard keeper by Mahomes.  Hardman also scored a touchdown to make the game 28-12 with just over three minutes remaining. The 49ers marched down the field to set up another Purdy score, but the two-point conversion failed, followed by an unsuccessful onside kick.

Mahomes finished the game 16 for 27 and 154 yard passing, including two interceptions. He was also sacked twice for nine yards, but did record a 33-yard scamper to set up his touchdown dash. Kareem Hunt led all rushers with 78 yards on 22 carries, while Noah Gray led the passing game with four catches for 66 yards.

The win makes Kansas City the last undefeated team in the NFL this season. It’s another trip west next week for the Chiefs, as they prepare for the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium. Pregame next Sunday is at 2 p.m., with kickoff at 3:25, on KMMO-FM 102.9.
