The Slater School District Board of Education approved a motion to allocate up to $500,000 to improve the district’s gym floor during its meeting on Tuesday, October 22.

Superintendent Dr. Terry Lorenz said Performance Services is handling the bidding process, but says the board did decide to go with a college-level floor with plenty of shock resistance.

Lorenz says the district could have to spend up to $90,000 for asbestos removal before beginning the project.

Lorenz notes that the board plans to begin this project on March 1, 2025.

In other news, newly-appointed board member Lexie Dowell was sworn-in. Dowell will serve in the position until the election in April 2025.
