Johnson County Clerk Diane Thompson says misinformation about absentee voting may be putting voters’ personal information at risk.

In a statement, Thompson says that her office has heard reports that voters may have made appointments online to cast their ballots absentee. She stresses that absentee voting is first come, first serve and that her office does NOT take appointments online. Thompson warns that voters should not give out personal information for this purpose, as third parties may be misleading voters into believing this is an option, in order to collect that information.

Thompson notes that an average of 260 Johnson County voters per day have made use of the no-excuse absentee voting window since it opened Tuesday. Advance voting in Johnson County is taking place at the county clerk’s office on the second floor of the Johnson County Courthouse in Warrensburg. The office’s hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Thompson’s office will also open Saturday, Nov. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Curbside voting is available by calling 660-747-7414 in advance.
