The Kansas City Current secured their first major trophy in franchise history with a 2-0 victory over Gotham FC on Friday, Oct. 25 in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup final in San Antonio.

The Current relied on their tried-and-true blueprint, with striker Temwa Chawinga scoring goals in the 24th and 37th minutes. She was assisted on both by captain Lo’eau Labonta. Goalkeeper Almuth Schult maintained the clean sheet to clinch the title for the Current.

The Current return to league play to wrap up the regular season Nov. 3 at the Chicago Red Stars. Their first playoff game at CPKC Stadium will take place Nov. 9 at 11 a.m.
