The Kansas City Current can lay claim to the NWSL’s single-season goals record, after wrapping up the season with a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday, Nov. 3 in Chicago.

All three goals came in a ten-minute span during the first half, with forwards Michelle Cooper, Debinha, and Nichelle Prince also claiming the scores. The Red Stars were unable to record any shots on goal in the first half, but Liberty native Shea Groom recorded an assist on Chicago’s lone goal, a breakaway goal by Ally Schlegel in the 52nd minute.  The goal denied Current goalkeeper Almuth Schult the clean sheet.

Kansas City wrap up the regular season with 55 points and the fourth seed in next weekend’s playoffs. They also have the record for most goals in a season with 57. 20 of those were from the league’s Golden Boot winner, forward Temwa Chawinga. The Current will host the North Carolina Courage at CPKC Stadium this Saturday at 11 a.m.
