A Sedalia landmark will have a fresh look after the completion of a project beginning Monday, Nov. 4, a project that will have several surrounding areas closed for at least two weeks.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is replacing the roof on the historic Bothwell Lodge, located six miles north of Sedalia along U.S. Route 65. In a statement, the department says the new roof will sport a red and gray diamond checkerboard pattern similar to the original design used by Homer Bothwell when he built the lodge nearly a century ago. Additional repairs to the roof decking, fascia, cooper flashing, and ornamentation items may also take place. During the project, the lodge itself will close, as well as the northern half of the park including the office, visitor center, and walking trail.

Updates on the park’s closure are available on the Missouri State Parks website.
