Bobby Witt Jr. and Seth Lugo were both honored with their first Gold Gloves on Sunday, November 3.
14 first-time winners were recognized by the 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, with Witt and Lugo of the Kansas City Royals capturing their first career Gold Gloves.
Witt led all American League shortstops with 16 Outs Above Average (OAA) to earn his first award. Lugo was tied for second among pitchers in Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) and had a perfect fielding percentage.
Two other Royals were finalists, but missed out on the award. Freddy Fermin was beat out by Seattle’s Cal Raleigh, and Cole Ragans missed out on the award to his teammate Lugo.
All three of the St. Louis Cardinals’ Gold Glove finalists missed out on the hardware. Ten-time winner Nolan Arenado lost out to San Francisco’s Matt Chapman, Masyn Winn was beat out by Colorado’s Ezequiel Tovar, and Brendan Donovan missed out on the Utility Gold Glove to Pittsburgh’s Jared Triolo.
The MLB Platinum Gloves will be awarded on November 8, and the Silver Sluggers will be awarded on November 12.
