Over 2,000 citizens in Saline County completed their civic duty early and cast their ballots for Tuesday’s general election in advance.

Saline County Clerk Brittni Burton tells KMMO News that 15 percent of the county’s registered voters made their way to her office during the previous six weeks when absentee and mail-in ballots were available.

Burton says turnout at the county’s precincts has also been heavy.

Burton adds that her staff won’t start counting ballots until after the polls close at 7 p.m., with the first results expected shortly after that. She says it may take longer for the final results to come out, given that two county offices have declared write-in candidates.

KMMO will have reports from Saline County, as well as six of our area counties, as the results are tabulated and released. Our election coverage begins at 7 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9 and online at KMMO.com.
