The Sedalia City Council entered into a funding agreement with the Missouri Department of Transportation for improvements to a major intersection in the southern part of the city.
The agreement received a 6-0 vote at Monday night’s city council meeting, with council members Tom Oldham and Chris Marshall absent, and will allow the city to take the lead in designing improvements to the intersection of 32nd Street and Route B with U.S. Route 65. City administrator Kelvin Shaw says the city has pressed state and regional bodies for years to pursue improvements.
Also at Monday night’s meeting, the council amended the budget to allocate $450,000 toward repairs to the Washington Street Bridge. Shaw says the bridge closed Friday to allow the process to begin, but that design work is continuing.
Sedalia City Council recognized Shaw for ten years of service to the city, including the past seven as city administrator, and commended officer Neva Overstreet for her efforts to save the life of a cadet while teaching at a police academy last month. Council members also agreed to a design for the rehabilitation of a parallel taxiway and the northernmost portion of the main runway at Sedalia Regional Airport, and for repairs to the solar array at the city’s water filtration plant following flood damage in 2022.
