Patrons of the Marshall Public Library are one step closer to having a new location after voters gave a comfortable majority to a quarter-cent sales tax to fund its construction.
With nearly 70 percent of the vote, Marshall residents passed Proposition L, which will allow the library to renovate and relocate four blocks south to the current site of Powerhouse General Store. Library General Manager Matt Rahner expressed gratitude for the public’s support.
Rahner says architects are continuing to finalize the design, with the goal of making the move from the basement of city hall by the summer of 2026.
The Marshall Public Library first opened in 1990 at its current location. The quarter-cent sales tax will last until 2039.
