Born November 30, 1948, in Kansas City, MO, she was the daughter of the late Frances Irene Brown.  Margaret lived in Marshall most of her life and was a 1966 graduate of Marshall High School.  On December 24, 1966, she married Robert E. “Bob” Alfrey who survives of the home.  Throughout her life she had worked at Marshall Public Schools as a cook, local retail stores and then in the Saline County Assessor’s Office for 10 years.  While she did work outside the home, Margaret’s life was dedicated to being there for her family.  She made sure that her family, and all of their friends were well fed and they all enjoyed that because she was an excellent cook and baker.  During her spare time Margaret enjoyed doing crafts, decorating for the holidays, and playing canasta with her canasta club.   She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, and was loved by all who knew her.  Margaret will be missed.

In addition to her husband of nearly 58 years, Bob; she is survived by three children: Stacey Townsend (Terry), Robert Alfrey and Jeff Alfrey (Charisma), all of Marshall; six grandchildren: Kellin Townsend, Haidyn Shroyer (Cory), Clayton Alfrey, Jesse Black, Haygen Alfrey and Lucas Alfrey; one great-granddaughter, Hendrix Murray; one brother, Kelly Whitney (Jo Ann) of Russellville, AR; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Margaret was preceded in death by her mother and four siblings: Charles Whitney, in infancy, Doris Bauer, Kenny Sayers and Roy Phillips; and a special sister-in-law, Barb Phillips.
