The Denver Broncos ran a near-flawless game plan against the Kansas City Chiefs, only giving up the lead once. But with thanks to Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal, they still found themselves unable to dethrone the league’s last undefeated team.  A 35-yard attempt by Broncos kicker Will Lutz was blocked by Chenal, surprising the Chiefs faithful as KC pulled off a 16-14 win at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 10, to stay a perfect 9-0.  The kick attempt came after a methodical drive by the Broncos to use up the final six minutes on the clock with 14 plays on a short field.

The Chiefs struggled to get past the Broncos defense, as Patrick Mahomes was sacked four times and hit another five. Most of the scoring took place in the second quarter, after both teams exchanged punts twice in the first. Denver opened the scoring early in the quarter with a six-yard touchdown pass from Bo Nix to Devaughn Vele. The Chiefs’ following drive stalled in the red zone, resulting in a Harrison Butker field goal from 36 yards. The Broncos extended their lead when Nix connected with Courtland Sutton on a 32-yard pass play for a score. The Chiefs got their lone touchdown of the game when Mahomes linked up with Travis Kelce for a two-yard score. Lutz attempted a 60-yard field goal as time expired, which Mecole Hardman caught in the end zone and returned to midfield in an effort to channel the end of the 2013 Iron Bowl. Scoring in the second half was limited to a pair of Butker field goals of 28 and 20 yards.

Mahomes finished the day 28-for-42, totaling 266 yards with one touchdown. Kareen Hunt led the offense with 14 carries for 35 yards and seven catches for 65 yards. Kelce added eight passes for 64 yards and the touchdown that was the 76th of his cqareer, tying him with Tony Gonzalez for the most in Chiefs history.

The Chiefs make their way to Buffalo next week to face the Bills at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:25 p.m., with pregame at 2:00 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9.
