Two Marshall High School science teams competed in the Momberg Math and Science Competition at CMU in Fayette last week, with one of the teams taking second place.
The 2024 Dr. Harold Momberg Math and Science Competition at Central Methodist University was held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The competition had two components: a Knowledge Event and a Performance Event. The overall team scores are a calculated combination of the scores for the two events. The Knowledge Event was a series of question about mathematics and science. The Performance Event involved teams building an “Egg-Lander”. The overall goal is to construct the lightest and smallest lander which enables the egg to come to rest closest to the center of the target suffering as little damage as possible. The landers were dropped at a distance of more than ten meters.
Marshall’s Team Red, comprised of Michelle Lin, Eliza Papreck, and Sherlyn Solano received second place which qualified them each for a $500 scholarship to CMU renewable each year for four years. Marshall’s Team Black included Matthew Pomerenke, Peyton Marshall, Meg Linsenbardt, and alternatives Reyonna Franklin and Rebeca Gonzalez.
