
Both the Missouri Valley College men’s and women’s soccer teams will begin their quest for NAIA national championships next weekend by hosting a second-round contest.
The men’s team is seeded fourth in the tournament and will have a first-round bye. The Vikings will welcome Hastings and Louisiana Christian to Volney C Ashford Stadium, who will face off Nov. 21. Hastings and Louisiana Christian both earned automatic bids for winning their conference tournaments, with Hastings (11-7-2) representing the Great Plains Athletic Conference and Louisiana Christian (14-4-3) hailing from the Red River Conference. The Vikings will take on the winner of the Hastings/Louisiana Christian contest on Nov. 23. The winner will advance to the men’s national tournament in Wichita.
Also from the Heart, William Penn has the third seed for winning the conference tournament. They host the winner of Missouri Baptist and Governors State of Illinois. MidAmerica Nazarene will visit 13th seeded Huntington of Indiana. Baker will travel to 15th seed California-Merced.
The women’s team also received a first-round bye and are seeded 14th. The Vikings will face Truett McConnell of Georgia on Nov. 23, who won the Appalachian Athletic Conference title and bring a 16-1-3 record. The winner will join 15 other teams in Pensacola, Fla. for the women’s championship tournament.
Two other teams from Heart are in the 40-team playoff. Central Methodist start the tournament on the road to Siloam Springs, Ark. to face 16th-seeded John Brown. Benedictine has a first-round tilt against Concordia of Nebraska, with the winner facing sixth-ranked Aquinas of Michigan. Also from Missouri, Columbia College are seeded seventh and will host the winner of Oklahoma Science and Arts and Friends University of Kansas.
