Water and sewer rates in the City of Glasgow are set to increase to help pay for a bond needed to finish a bridge project.

Aldermen voted last Tuesday to go forward with a bond totaling $850,000. City administrator Robert Snider tells KMMO News the bond will cover the remaining cost of the Industrial Drive project, which now totals $1.7 million but was initially funded at just $500,000. To cover the cost, aldermen will pursue an additional $8 per month in the city’s water and sewer bills. Snider notes that water rates in Glasgow have not increased in several years. Both items will be discussed at a public hearing set for Dec. 2.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Snider announced that Glasgow was launching a new Facebook page and still looking for a new webmaster. He also announced that the city is looking for a new public works supervisor after the current supervisor submitted his notice to retire. Glasgow’s next regular board of aldermen meeting is Dec. 9.
