The Slater City Council accepted a bid to install a chain-link fence around its new park playground during its meeting on Tuesday, November 20.

The council expressed interest in putting up a fence around the park’s new playground equipment. The council reviewed two bids, with the low bid coming from J and B Developments in the amount of $7,206.50. City Administrator Gene Griffith also told the council about a $5,000 donation from the Slater Christian Church which could be used for the needs of the park. The church made this donation before ceasing operations in December 2023. After some discussion, the council approved a motion to move forward with the bid from J and B Developments and to use the donation from the church to help cover the cost of the project. The city will pick up the remaining cost of the bid.

In other news, the April 2025 election was brought up during Mayor Terry Jordan’s report. Matt Campbell in Ward 1, Brenda Smith in Ward 2, Crystal Wiseman in Ward 3, and Caleb Jordan in Ward 4 all have terms that expire in April 2025. Any resident wishing to file for one of these council seats can do so from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. December 10-31 with Griffith.
