Four elected county officials joined the Saline County Commission on Friday, Nov. 22 to review an initial draft of the proposed ordinance that would officially implement the senior tax credit supported by nearly 85 percent of county voters.
County leaders spent about an hour reviewing the draft, along with ordinances already in place in other counties including Boone, Camden, Greene and Pettis counties. Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden says the process is still early, but the goal is to have the ordinance in place before March.
Discussion also centered on the need to purchase software to securely store the documents required to verify a homeowner’s eligibility.
Treasurer Jared Brewer, Clerk Brittni Burton, Assessor Jessica Goodman, and Collector Cindi Sims participated in Friday morning’s work session. No action was taken, as the ordinance will need to receive a vote during an official session of the Saline County Commission before taking effect.
