One game into their three-game trip to the Big Apple, the St Louis Blues have given Drew Bannister an apple and a road map after Saturday’s 3-1 loss to the Islanders.

The team announced Sunday morning that Bannister was relieved of coaching duties, following a 9-12-1 start to the season, including seven losses in their last nine contests. Bannister’s time in charge of the Blues concludes with a record of 39 wins, 31 losses, and six overtime losses. The Blues have turned to Jim Montgomery, just days after Montgomery was fired by the Boston Bruins following their slow start to the season. Montgomery had coached the Bruins to the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, only to fall to the Florida Panthers both times. He returns to a Blues squad where he was an assistant coach for two seasons.

The Blues will look to start Montgomery’s tenure on the right skate when they take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Monday night, with puck drop at 6 p.m.. St Louis are currently sixth in the Central Division with 19 points, falling five points behind Colorado.
