Kicker Spencer Shrader connected from 31 yards as time expired to lift the Kansas City Chiefs out of Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte with a 30-27 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Shrader also converted field goal attempts of 41 and 25 yards to help the Chiefs avoid the upset and a second straight loss. While the Panthers never led, they were able to tie the game with 1:46 remaining with a Chuba Hubbard one-yard touchdown run and successful two-point conversion. Both plays were set up by pass interference penalties against the Chiefs, two of the ten accepted penalties for 91 yards. However, with all three timeouts on hand, the Chiefs were able to set up Shrader’s game winning field goal, including a crucial 33-yard keeper by quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes carried the ball five times for 60 yards, while going 27-for-37 in the air totaling 269 yards and three touchdowns. Tight end Noah Gray accounted for two of the touchdown catches to lead all receivers with four catches for 66 yards. However, the offensive line struggled to keep Carolina’s defense off Mahomes, as he was sacked five times for 43 yards. Carolina quarterback Bryce Young showed resolve, going 21-for-35 with a touchdown pass and 263 yards.

The Chiefs improve to 10-1 on the season, and will spend Thanksgiving preparing for their Black Friday clash with the Las Vegas Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium. Friday’s game will kick off at 2 p.m., with pregame from 1 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9.
